[S1E6] Slutty Pumpkin [EXCLUSIVE]

[Barney and Ted discuss Halloween plans as Ted is dressed as a Hanging Chad...]Barney: Okay, here's the plan, and I crap you not. I am getting us into the Victoria's Secret Halloween party. Trust me, by the end of the night, your chad will not be hanging.Ted: We can get rejected by supermodels any day of the year. Tonight, I'm gonna go up tp the roof, I'm gonna have a few beers, I'm gonna wait for the slutty pumpkin. It's just what I do.

[S1E6] Slutty Pumpkin

Robin: How do you do this Ted? How do sit out here all night, in the cold, and still have faith that your pumpkin's going to show up?Ted: Well, I'm pretty drunk. Look I know the odds are, the love of my life isn't going to magically walk through that door in a pumpkin costume at 2:43 in the morning. But it just seems as nice a spot as any to just ... you know, sit and wait

At the bar, Lily and Marshall are excited that their Halloween costumes came in the mail. Barney mentions that he loves Halloween because women dress up in "slutty" costumes, such as a slutty witch, a slutty cat, and a slutty nurse. Robin then informs the group that she has been dating a guy named Mike for a few weeks, who the gang hasn't met yet. Lily suggests that they go on a double date.

Ted arrives at the bar and tells Robin that he will be waiting for the "Slutty Pumpkin", which he does every year on Halloween. Ted tells the story of how he met the Slutty Pumpkin four years earlier on Halloween night. He was at a party on the roof of his apartment building, where he met a girl who was wearing a sexy pumpkin costume, and made a drink she called a Tootsie Roll, which was a mixture of Kahlua and root beer. As Ted tells his story, Barney, Lily and Marshall continually interject, since Ted has evidently told this story many times. Ted continues, saying that he got the Slutty Pumpkin's phone number, but it was written on a Kit Kat wrapper, which Lily had unintentionally given away, causing Ted to lose her number.

It's Halloween night and the five pursue their own rituals. Marshall and Lily attempt to win the costume contest dressed as, respectively, Captain Jack Sparrow and a parrot, Robin dismisses the entire holiday, Barney attempts to convince Ted to go along with one of his schemes and Ted stakes out the party on the roof in hopes of finding the slutty pumpkin.

The slutty pumpkin is a woman he met one night in 2000 who was "carved in strategic places." The two hit it off instantly; she laughs at Ted's topical "hanging chad" costume, Ted admires her root beer and Kaluha cocktail invention and her love of Star Wars (and ewoks). Eventually he gets her number written on a Kit-Kat bar, but loses it after he returns to his apartment to tell Marshall and Lily.

On the roof, Ted continues to wait for the mythical slutty pumpkin to little result. Meanwhile, at the same party, Barney gets shot down by a girl once, so he changes costumes in order to get a second first impression only to get shot down again. He leaves once again, fed up with how lame the party is and, just when Ted was about to give up as well, he spies a person in a penguin suit who makes the root beer and kaluha cocktail. Unfortunately for him, it's Barney screwing with him.

Ted makes his yearly pilgrimage to the rooftop Halloween party in search of a girl dressed as a pumpkin who he met years ago. Meanwhile, Robin is dumped after driving her new boyfriend away with her independent ways.

Barney: You know what I love about Halloween? It's the one night of the year chicks use to unleash their inner ho-bag. If a girl dresses up as she a witch, she's a slutty witch. If she's a cat, she's a slutty cat. If she's a nurse...Lily: Wow, we get it.Barney: She's a slutty nurse.

Robin: Hey, Ted, what are you doing for Halloween?Ted: Well...Marshall, Lily, Barney: Aw.Robin: What?Lily: Every Halloween Ted waits for the Slutty Pumpkin.Ted: That's right.Robin: What's the Slutty Pumpkin?Ted: You mean, who is the Slutty Pumpkin? It was four years ago. I was at this Halloween party up on the roof of our building. I'm about to call it an early night when out of nowhere appeared this girl in the sexiest pumpkin costume.Robin: Wait, how can a pumpkin costume be sexy?Ted: It was carved in strategic places.

As Halloween approaches, Ted Mosby plans on spending the holiday the way he does every year, waiting for a girl he calls "the slutty pumpkin" because that was the costume she was wearing when he met her. Ted met her at a Halloween party four years earlier and the two spent the night together. Ted believed that she was "the one". However, after that party, Ted never saw her again and had no way to contact her. Therefore, he waits every year at a Halloween party, dressed as a hanging chad (the costume he wore the night he met her) hoping that she will show up. Although she has never shown up in previous years, Ted is feeling hopefull about this year.

In the end, Robin goes to the same party that Ted went to earlier. Ted is still waiting there, even though it is two o'clock in the morning and everybody else has left. Robin tells Ted that there is no chance that "the slutty pumpkin" will show up. Ted admits that he knows that but that does not mean he will ever stop waiting.
